In a new feature, I’m looking back on the information which appeared in newspapers when local footballers stepped up to the senior grade.
From November 1970 . . .
Arbroath manager Albert Henderson signed a keeper this morning.
He is 21-year-old Brian Wilson from junior side Arbroath Vics.
Mr Henderson faced a crisis on Saturday morning when Dave Phillips injured a leg in training.
His other regular goalkeeper Jim Gallacher was already injured.
Wilson, formerly of Dundee East End juveniles and North End juniors, was already fixed up to play for the Gayfield reserves against Ferranti Thistle in Edinburgh.
Wilson had two seasons with North End, then went back to the juveniles.
He started this season with junior side Arbroath Vics.
A setter-operator with a Dundee firm, Wilson was recently made redundant.
He started training at Gayfield less than a couple of hours after signing.
