A recent edition of Tele supplement The Dundonian featured Dundee junior football teams from the 1960s and 1970s.
One was a Dundee North End team group and several readers asked why such a famous outfield player was the goalie.
Montrose legend and former Dundee FC right-back Les Barr donned the yellow jersey for this particular team group. Former Dokens player Dennis Elder provided the ‘simple’ explanation.
“North End were short of a goalkeeper for that game,” said Dennis.
“Les just volunteered to play in goal. He was so enthusiastic about playing that he would really play anywhere to get a game.
“The reason is really as simple as that.”
