Through this column, Jim Mitchell would like to apologise to an old team-mate.
Jim explained: “I would like to apologise to an old team-mate from my first stint with Douglas Amateurs around 1970.
“I was hurrying up Reform Street on the opening day of the V&A when I passed a couple of guys, one of which was Tommy Allan.
“He was yapping to his mate but looked at me and I at him.
“He hasn’t changed and was very bronzed as I know he has lived in Spain for a number of years.
“I was really mad at myself for not stopping him and introducing myself, but I think he follows BwB or, perhaps, one of his family or friends can pass on my apology.
Jim (pictured left in white strip in the Douglas Amateurs side which won the league in the late 1970s in his second stint) continued: “He is also on an old Douglas Amateurs photo which I have just passed on to Ossie Heffell Sr.
“It’s from 1970-72 and the first time I saw it was in the Occidental Bar in Broughty Ferry when the late Gordon Bruce was mine host.
It was given to my brother-in-law Bobby Barty a few years ago when he spotted it in another bar, Doc Ferry’s, and recognised all the faces.
“I am sure you have shown it before on your pages.
“I would really like to say sorry to wee Tommy for not stopping to say hello.”
I can’t locate the photo Jim mentioned, so, if he or Ossie would like to send it in with the names of the players, then we’ll use it in a future issue.
