In July, Simon Murray joined South African club Bidvest Wits.
Simon’s goals helped Dundee eventually stave off the threat of relegation from the Premier League when he played for the Dark Blues on loan from Hibs last season (2017-18).
His return to parent club Hibees for the new term was short-lived as he signed for the Johannesburg outfit, who play in the Premier Soccer League.
However, it turns out Simon is not the first Dundonian to play for this club.
Ronnie Mitchell, who is, perhaps, best known for his mountain of goals with Dundee amateur side Riverside Athletic, also had a spell with the ‘Clever Boys’, so nicknamed because of their ties with the University of the Witwatersrand.
Dundee Junior clubs Ronnie also played for included North End, Violet, Lochee United, East Craigie and Broughty Athletic.
Ronnie is a director of Dundee-based timber preservation and asbestos services specialists Intona Limited.
He is a former pupil of Gilburn Primary School and Kirkton High School in Dundee.
