BLETHER: Markie family delighted at getting top scorer medal back

We told in our February 3 Tele how we managed to reunite John Markie with his junior top scorer medal (see photo above).

His daughter Trish Eccles was also eager to say thanks.

She said: “Can I please thank you and Andy Walker for the return of my dad’s medal.

“The Markie family are extremely grateful for your efforts and goodwill in finding the owner of this particular junior football medal.

“What makes it more meaningful is that our father has Alzheimer’s and forgets continually what he did an hour ago.

“However, ask him about his football career and he can name all the players he played with, year upon year.

“Witnessing his memory this sharp when receiving the return of his football medal was lovely, so thank you to everyone who played a part in its return.”

Comments like this just make it all worthwhile.
