Arbroath assistant manager Ian Campbell reckons that the Lichties’ game with visitors Morton will be between two sides out to make a statement.
The Gayfield men’s first quarter of games in the Championship comes to an end against the Greenock side, with Campbell determined that a run of disappointing results also comes to an end.
A last-gasp defeat to Dundee United at Tannadice started a run of four defeats, with Ayr leaving Angus with full points three weeks ago before a reverse at Dundee the following Saturday.
Being knocked out of the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup last weekend by Clyde will prompt changes in playing personnel.
Campbell said: “We cannot hide from the fact that it was a disappointing result and performance.
“We tried a few things out including having a more attacking approach than we would in a Championship game but we never really got on top of Clyde.
“It is now time for this run to stop.
“The manager will make changes to the team and whoever is coming in will be tasked with making sure we are more like the side we were at the start of the season.
“We have had a disappointing few weeks but we will look for that end with a positive performance against Morton.”
Campbell reckons that the Cappielow outfit will be out to end a disappointing run of their own.
He explained: “Morton have been terrific on their own patch this season but they have not been as strong away from home.
“David Hopkin went in there during the summer and he is still trying to get the right formula to win games consistently.
“They will fancy their chances of getting that win against us. They will be thinking that we are on a bit of a downer and, whilst we have been disappointed recently, we will make sure that the Arbroath players are up for this game.
“A win will get us going again.”
On-loan Aberdeen midfielder Miko Virtanen is available again after international duty with the Finnish under-21 side and everyone else is available to manager Dick Campbell with the exception of Gavin Swankie, who underwent surgery this week to correct a groin problem.
