Scotland boss Steve Clarke is “very optimistic” about the play-offs after seeing his side make it three wins in a row.
The Scots beat Kazakhstan 3-1 at Hampden to finish third in Group I and last night’s result followed wins in Cyprus and at home to San Marino.
It all helps boost the confidence for next March’s decisive match or matches, with the Scots given a possible pathway to the Euro 2020 finals via the Nations League.
Clarke said: “With this group of players, I can be very optimistic for the play-offs.
“I know what they are thinking in that dressing room and I know they are 100% committed to their country.
“I also know they are desperate to get to a major tournament in Euro 2020 so we can be very optimistic.
“I thought the performance was really good in the second half and good in the first half.
“We were up against a dangerous opponent and we knew Kazakhstan could hurt us on the counter-attack.
“We knew if we made mistakes in possession they could hurt us, which is what they did when they took the lead.
“It was a great reaction in the second half particularly.
“We played a lot of really good stuff, looked a threat going forward and created a lot of chances.
“That’s three points and three wins in a row and the boys in the dressing room are feeling good about themselves.”
