Brechin boss Mark Wilson is backing new recruit Alex Petkov to play a “significant role” in keeping City in the league.
The giant Bulgarian central defender has moved to Glebe Park from Hearts on a temporary transfer until the end of the League Two season.
The son of Bulgarian international Milen Petko has also spent some time on loan this season at League One side Clyde.
Wilson said: “We are delighted Alex has agreed to join us at Brechin City and we are extremely confident that he can play a significant role in helping us climb the table in the remaining 13 games.
“Alex will add presence and great experience to our defence, while posing an attacking threat at the other end of the pitch.
“While Alex had offers from clubs in higher divisions, it is testament to his character that he has chosen the challenges we face in the coming weeks at Brechin City.
“We look forward to working with him and have no doubt he will make a positive impact on our squad at this crucial stage of the season.”
Petkov, who is six-foot-three, began his career at Cherno More Varna in Bulgaria before joining the Jam Tarts as a 16-year-old in 2016.
He made his debut for the Bulgarian under-21 team last March in a friendly against Northern Ireland and is now a regular starter at that level for his country.
