Raith Rovers boss John McGlynn has tipped new signing Luke Mahady to have a bright future in football.

The 16-year-old has penned a two-year deal with the Stark’s Park outfit after six years in the Celtic youth academy.

The Kirkcaldy club have beaten off stiff competition from clubs on both sides of the border to secured Mahady’s signature and McGlynn has high hopes for the youngster.

Raith sold 17-year-old Kieron Bowie to Fulham this summer and McGlynn has promised Mahady he will get a chance with Rovers.

He said: “[Assistant] Paul Smith and I are over the moon to attract another promising local player to the club.

“Luke is a 6’1’’ striker who has been part of the Celtic youth academy for the last six years, receiving excellent coaching during that time.

“It’s up to us now to help Luke develop even further and, in time, became a first-team player for the club.

“Luke trained with us on Monday and both Luke and ourselves liked what we saw. We quickly made him an offer, which he accepted, beating off a lot of interest from other clubs.

“As we have shown in the past, we will give youth its chance and, with hard work and determination, allied to ability, we think Luke will have a bright future.”
