Darren Ramsey will quit his boyhood heroes Rangers in the summer – but insists he won’t look back in anger.
Ramsay, who has spent the season on loan at Arbroath, was at Hampden as his former Gers youth team-mate Barrie McKay netted from 25-yards in his side’s penalty shoot-out win over Celtic.
But while Ramsay has been told by Ibrox boss Mark Warburton that he’s surplus to requirements, he isn’t envious at McKay’s achievements.
“I’ve known for a long time that I wasn’t just coming to Arbroath on loan but I wouldn’t get back to Rangers,” said Ramsay.
“The manager was honest with me. He told me I wasn’t in his plans and I could go for free.
“I don’t know what the future holds but I don’t have any regrets.
“I’ve maybe taken one step back to go two forward by coming here. Hopefully my first team experience will stand me in good stead.”
Ramsay was Arbroath’s most creative force against the Gable Endies on a day where chances were at a premium.
Mark Whatley had the hosts’ best effort but Montrose keeper Jordan Millar was alive to his 25-yard strike to turn it wide. At the other end, Gary Pascazio should have directed a close range effort on target as the teams settled for a draw.
Edinburgh City defeated Cove Rangers 3-0 in the first leg of the League Two play-off semi-final. The second leg is next Saturday.
