Montrose boss Paul Hegarty has pulled off a major signing coup after persuading this season’s top scorer Gary Fraser to pen a new two-year deal.
The 29-year-old striker netted 19 times in 39 appearances for the Gable Endies during this campaign.
Those scoring feats did not go unnoticed elsewhere with other clubs keen to capture Fraser, who joined Montrose from Perth Junior side Jeanfield Swifts last summer.
However, he has now committed his future to the Angus club, a decision that was warmly welcomed by Hegarty.
The manager said: “I am delighted Gary has agreed to extend his contract.
“He is a key player for us and finishing third highest scorer in the league behind Nathan Austin and Craig Gunn is a great achievement.
“With goalscorers hard to come by, a number of teams were very keen on Gary and it speaks volumes for this club that he has chosen to commit his future here for the next two years.
“Our squad for next season is shaping up nicely and we hope to announce further additions shortly.”
Hegarty now has 13 players signed up for next season.
