Montrose boss Paul Hegarty is hoping to have a couple of trialists lined up before Friday night’s pre-season opener against Highland League side Deveronvale at Links Park.
The manager admitted that it is an incredibly-early start for his players considering his side’s last game was on April 30 against Berwick Rangers.
However, with the Gable Endies facing a Betfred League Cup tie against Premiership outfit Ross County on July 16, it is vital that Montrose are fully prepared.
Hegarty said: “We are still working away trying to bring players in and we have a friendly against Deveronvale at Links Park on Friday night.
“Hopefully I will be able to run the rule over a couple of trialists in the game.
“It is an early start and it just seems like yesterday that the last season ended.
“When I was a player, we had nine to 10 weeks off but there is a very quick turnaround nowadays.
“To be fair to the players, they have come back in really good nick and we have had them working hard in training.
“But it is still amazing to think that the European Championship Final isn’t until July 10 and we will already have played games.”
