Brechin boss Darren Dods would have preferred to have started the season already but he still made good use of his Saturday. Instead of kicking off their Betfred Cup campaign, City had the weekend off and Dods used his time to spy on tonight’s visitors Stirling Albion. The Forthbank men secured an eyebrow-raising home win over a fancied Falkirk side and Dods was pleased he was there to see the opposition in action. “I would rather that we had started the cup ourselves on Saturday but we weren’t alone in having to wait,” he said. “That just makes us look forward to the Stirling game even more. “I took the chance to go and see them play against Falkirk and was glad I did so. “They were getting chances and the longer the game went on the more you fancied them to hang on and win. “So it will be a tricky one for us but we can’t wait to get started. “Pre-season matches are one thing but they can’t compare to competitive football.” City will be without Paul McLean tonight as he is still recovering from the knock he took against Raith Rovers earlier this month. Dods confirmed: “Paul will be out for another week at least but otherwise we have a full-fit squad.”
