Maximum points from the opening two fixtures leaves Brechin City among three teams that top League One, leaving manager Darren Dodds quietly satisfied.
After watching goals from Alan Trouten and Andy Jackson secure a 2-0 win against Albion Rovers, the former Dundee United and Forfar defender said: “Apart from right at the end of last session we only achieved back-to-back wins once.
“It makes a difference ending up on six points after two games. Last season we were sitting with zero points after eight games.
“So the boys are adding this to the momentum from last season. We have added a few players and they are gelling well. Confidence is building.”
Cove Rangers come to Glebe Park tomorrow night in the Irn Bru Cup, followed by Queen’s Park on Saturday.
Dodds said: “As both games are at home we are hoping both to keep this run going and build our home form as well.”
It took 15 minutes before City took hold of the game after a cagey start by both sides.
The Glebe Park men came close in 26 minutes when Rovers keeper Ross Stewart just kept out a ball that came down from the cross bar.
There were visitors’ claims that the ball had gone in but four minutes later the opener arrived. A mistimed tackle on Chris O’Neil gave City a penalty, with Alan Trouten sending the keeper the wrong way.
Albion manager Darren Young labelled that a “cheap goal”, but could have no complaint when City went two ahead three minutes after the pause.
Smooth passing by Finn Graham and Ally Love set up Andy Jackson to slip the ball home.
Rovers attempted to get back in the game and Brechin keeper Graeme Smith parried a bicycle kick from Ryan Wallace on to a post, then punched clear Paul Willis’ net-bound free-kick.
