After shipping needless goals in recent weeks, East Fife boss Gary Naysmith praised his side’s steeliness as they saw off Stranraer.
Goals either side of the break from on-loan striker Jamie Insall kept the points in Methil.
Naysmith said: “Chris Kane moved back into centre half and did really well, as did Jonathan Page.
“Overall there was a real steeliness about us, which I’ve said to the players has to be there every week.
“I’m really pleased and, to reflect, we’re five games in and everyone is still finding their way.
“But what the players should take confidence from is that we’ve now beaten the two teams who got to the play-offs last year.”
Insall, brought back on transfer deadline day on-loan from Hibs, proved to be tormentor in chief. Twice during the 90 minutes he was unlucky to see efforts chalked off for offside.
But twice he did manage to get his name on the scoresheet.
The first came when he shrugged free of his marker to reach a Kevin Smith cross, which he headed past Cameron Belford.
The Methil men were looking slick going forward and they added a second when once again Insall was the beneficiary of a great delivery.
Kyle Wilkie this time sliced open the visiting defence with a through ball which picked out the forward.
He raced in on goal and casually lobbed Belford.
