Josh Peters could have been sitting at the top of the Championship with Hibs rather than leading League Two with Forfar.
However, the 19-year-old striker believes he was absolutely right to leave Easter Road for Station Park.
Peters made the move in the summer and has prospered, scoring eight times for the Loons already this season.
That form has earned him the Ladbrokes League Two player of the month for August award, enjoying a double success alongside his boss Gary Bollan, who was named the division’s manager of the month.
Peters spent just four months at Easter Road and featured in the Hibees’ development side, with first-team football eluding him until Bollan gave him the chance to start afresh.
“I did well and came close to getting a first team contract but with the quality and standard of the attackers at Hibs it would have been difficult for me to get a game if I had signed a contract,” said Peters.
“So it was probably a better decision to let me go and learn my trade at a team where I could get regular first-team football.
“I was disappointed to be let go after just a few months but it was a great experience overall and has only helped me on the way.
“I’m aiming to prove people wrong and I’m enjoying my football so I couldn’t ask for any more at the moment.
“I never expected to get off to the start I have had and I’m delighted to pick up the award.
“It’s been brilliant. I’ve started mostly every game and to get eight goals, I’d never have dreamed of that start.
“It’s the first time I’ve played senior and I’m really enjoying it at the moment.”
Meanwhile, Bollan praised his squad for helping him win his award.
He said: “It is recognition for the whole club, for the effort that everybody has put in.
“It’s a combined effort.
“The backroom staff have been great and it’s the players who put the effort in on the park.
“We can help them in terms of getting them ready to go and play but as soon as they cross the white line it’s up to them.
“It’s not just down to me, it’s down to them and the board of directors for helping us assemble the squad of players that we have.
“We have had a big change in personnel and that’s probably been a help.
“We have changed the dynamics in the dressing room and changed the mentality, compared to what we had last season.
“We’ve got some really good players that have played at a higher level.
“We identified players early in the close season and we managed to get most of who we wanted so I’ve been really pleased.
“On top of that, they have gelled pretty well in a short space of time, which is really important as well.
“Last year, for a good bit of the season there was a negative mindset, and now the players we’ve brought in have changed all that and there’s a much more positive outlook on things at the moment.”
