Montrose manager Paul Hegarty has admitted a wave of relief swept through the club after they won away at Edinburgh City.
The Gable Endies came out on top in the early-season six-pointer last Saturday thanks to Gary Fraser’s goal just after the hour.
The result moved them four points clear of City in the League Two table and also ahead of Stirling Albion on goal difference.
Hegarty is now looking to carry the momentum from Meadowbank through to today’s clash against Berwick Rangers at Links Park.
“I think ‘relief’ is the right word to describe how we all felt,” said Hegarty.
“We needed to get our first win because the longer you go on without it the more the pressure grows on you.
“Both teams were desperate to come out on top so I’m delighted it was us who did so.
“It was a good victory under difficult circumstances and now we want to carry it on against Berwick Rangers at home.”
While the win against the division’s newcomers gave everyone a boost, the bad news was that key man Terry Masson was sent off six minutes from time and will therefore sit today’s game out through suspension.
“I would say Terry has been our most consistent player this season so far so we will miss him,” added Hegarty.
“I will have to decide what to do to plug the gap but there won’t be too many changes after the Edinburgh City result.
“Berwick have a really good manager in John Coughlin so I know he will have his team well prepared.
“Our aim is to build on what we achieved last weekend in front of our own fans.”
