New East Fife boss Barry Smith has moved quickly to appoint Gordon Young as his assistant manager.
Young, who was most recently Mixu Paatelainen’s No.2 when he was in charge of Dundee United, has previously been International Academy Manager at Sheffield United and Academy Director at Motherwell.
Smith, whose appointment was officially announced on Monday night, spoke of his delight at attracting someone of Young’s calibre to be his assistant at Bayview.
The manager said: “I have known Gordon for a long time and I have done a few of my badges with him.
“I know all his qualities. He has tremendous experience and he is someone I know I can bounce ideas off of.
“Gordon just wants to be involved in football. He was obviously at United and if the offer of a full-time job comes up – and I wouldn’t be surprised if it did – then I am not going to hold him to ransom to stay.
“But it is good for myself to have someone of his calibre in beside me.”
