Ian Murray to be named Raith Rovers boss following successful talks

Confirmed: Murray is the new Rovers boss
Confirmed: Murray is the new Rovers boss

Ian Murray has agreed to become the new Raith Rovers manager.

The former Hibernian, Rangers and Scotland defender verbally accepted the role on Monday afternoon following talks with Rovers chiefs.

The formalities of Murray’s move from Airdrie were being completed into the evening but no major obstacles remain.

Murray, 41, is likely to be officially named successor to John McGlynn at Stark’s Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Successful candidate: Ian Murray

The highly-rated coach, who has bossed Airdrie since 2018, arrives in Kirkcaldy following a fine League 1 campaign with the Diamonds.

Although Airdrie fell at the playoff stage, they gained widespread plaudits for their results and slick style of football.

Murray has also enjoyed a successful spell in charge of Dumbarton, a far less enjoyable stint with St Mirren and broadened his horizons by spending 18 months coaching at Norwegian side Asker alongside ex-Easter Road teammate Kevin Nicoll.

Kelty Hearts manager Kevin Thomson and Murray were the final two in the running for the role.

Ray McKinnon, Laurie Ellis and Csaba Laszlo all applied for the position, while Dundee United assistant Liam Fox was interviewed.
