Bobby Barr is desperate to ease the pressure on Raith Rovers manager Gary Locke – and earn the bragging rights on his daily chats with his Morton opponents.
Barr left Morton in the summer to move to Stark’s Park and has watched his old team-mates go from strength to strength this season.
But he is desperate for misfiring Rovers, who have suffered back-to-back defeats to Dunfermline and Falkirk, to put a spanner in Morton’s works as they seek their first victory in nine matches.
He said: “If we can beat Morton then we’re only three points behind them, so it’s a massive game for us.
“If you look at the run Morton are on just now they are just winning. They’re winning by the odd goal and that’s the kind of run we need to go on.
“They’re doing well and I’m not surprised. The manager there has instilled a belief in them that they’re hard to beat.
“I know they’ll work hard for each other. That’s one thing we had last season as well, we grafted every week, and they’ve just carried it on this season.
“They’ve got a good squad and a really good dressing room down there.
“I still stay in touch with the boys down there, I’m still close with a few of them. We’re in a group chat, five or six speak every day.
“They’re like anybody sitting third in the table, having been in a semi-final, they’re just loving life and they’re full of confidence just now.
“They’re doing well but hopefully we can stop their run this weekend.”
Raith have not won since October and have only netted three times in their last eight games but Barr is adamant they can pull through their difficult spell.
The 28-year-old former Livingston winger added: “You need to stay positive. There’s no point in getting too down about it.
“I would take a 1-0 win, with a horrible performance. It’s just all about getting results.”
