Barry Smith was able to take the positives despite his side being unable to see off bottom-of-the-table Stranraer at Bayview.
The visitors installed Stevie Farrell as their new boss during the week and got the expected bounce from his appointment in this 0-0 draw.
They weren’t able to break down the home side either, with a share of the spoils a fair outcome in the end to ensure Smith’s men made it 10 on the bounce without defeat.
Methil boss Smith said: “We got a clean sheet, which shows how well we’re defending.
“The boys know we can play better but when you’re not playing well then it’s important to keep clean sheets and make sure you take something from the game.
“You’re going to have games when things are really tough.
“The weather maybe affected the way we wanted to play and stuff as well.
“We may look back and look at it as being a good point.
“We always knew they were going to get a lift with a new manager coming in and they have a lot of experience in their side as well.”
It was a game short on chances when neither ‘keeper was really tested too much.
East Fife had an early chance to break the deadlock when the ball broke kindly to Scott Robinson a few yards out.
The midfielder got his shot away but visiting ‘keeper Cammy Belford was equal to it.
At the other end, Ryan Thomson broke clear down the wing and cut a menacing pass back to the incoming Scott Agnew.
Luckily for the home side Agnew fired his effort inches wide.
The game descended into a midfield battle with chances on goal at a premium.
Kevin Smith fired over the bar as the first half ended.
The Methil men went on to have the better of the second half but were shut out by a Stranraer side that looked anything but bottom-of-the-table strugglers.
Smith introduced Chris Duggan from the bench shortly after the restart as the striker stepped up his comeback from injury.
Duggan added a little more spark in the final third for the Fifers but they were still unable to break down the Blues.
With time ticking down Stranraer were gifted a glorious chance to grab what would have been a winning goal.
A bobbling ball broke kindly for Liam Dick just a few yards out but he was unable to readjust his feet quick enough and scuffed his chance wide of Ryan Goodfellow’s post.
