East Fife have the incentive of moving ahead of Brechin if they can beat them at Bayview this afternoon.
Stepping over the Angus men in the League One table would be the perfect pick-me-up for the Fifers after they were edged out of the William Hill Scottish Cup by St Mirren last weekend.
They currently sit in sixth spot on 31 points, while City are just one better off in fifth place.
Methil boss Barry Smith may have seen his side exit the cup competition by 3-2 but he was proud of how his players acquitted themselves against the Championship side.
He said: “The boys gave me absolutely everything so there was nothing else I could have asked of them.
“Going into the cup-tie, I said that I wanted them to give a good account of themselves and they certainly did that and more.
“So it’s all positive moving forward to the Brechin match.
“There is an incentive there to go ahead of them in the table if we win the game but the league is so tight that positions will probably change every other week between now and the end of the season.
“What you have is two good sides who will be looking to win the game.
“I know Darren Dods will be setting his side up to have a go and when Brechin have everyone fit they have a really strong squad there.
“So it should be a good game for the neutral.”
The Fifers have a doubt over midfielder Scott Robinson, who hurt his back during the clash with the Buddies.
