Cowdenbeath lost their seventh successive Ladbrokes League 2 game and are seven points adrift at the foot of the table.
While they played much better at home to Stirling Albion they still came away with nothing.
The Blue Brazil had a penalty chance in five minutes when Kris Renton was fouled in the box by Ross McGeachie, but Chris Smith dived to save Dale Carrick’s spot-kick and then brilliantly saved from Brian Ross, while Robbie Buchanan saw his shot kicked off the line.
Stirling scored with their first serious attack in 16 minutes when Ross Smith’s header beat Jamie Sneddon.
Chris Smith continued his defiance with fine saves from Scott Rumsby and Ross again.
When Albion scored a minute after the break through Sean Dickson’s crisp finish the situation summed up Cowdenbeath’s season. Smith made two more great saves from Carrick and sub Kyle Miller.
Cowdenbeath manager Liam Fox said: “We produced some good football but just could not get the ball in the net.
“Then, like we have done so often this season, we did not deal with a ball belted into our box and we are suddenly a goal down.”
Asked about his own position he added: “I am in charge of Cowdenbeath until I hear otherwise, and I will be preparing the team to go to Berwick on Saturday and look to get the three points which can help our cause and lift our confidence levels”.
Stirling boss Dave McKay said for his team to lead at the break was “robbery”, but they played much better in the second half.
