Dave Mackay reveals Dunfermline’s Paul Allan has undergone surgery ahead of Scottish Cup tie versus Forfar

Dunfermline Athletic will have the same pool of players available from last week’s win over Peterhead.

Forwards Lewis McCann and Kevin O’Hara remain unavailable as Forfar Athletic prepare to take on the Pars at East End Park.

Paul Allan is also missing for the Scottish Cup third-round tie after deciding to have an operation on a metatarsal (foot bone).

The midfielder has been missing since the trip to Edinburgh in August, the second League 1 game of the season.

McCann and O’Hara timelines

“Paul Allan had surgery on Tuesday on his foot so he will be out for five or six weeks,” said Pars assistant manager Dave Mackay.

“That is a little disappointing for him but at least we have got to the root of it and solved the issue.

“Lewis McCann and Kevin O’Hara are still possibly a month away each.

“They are getting closer and feeling much better than what they were so we expect to have them back before the turn of the new year.

“Apart from that everybody else is fit and raring to go.”

Managerial merry-go-round

Saturday will be the third time in as many weeks that Dunfermline have come up against a new face in the dugout.

Former Raith Rovers and Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon recently took over at Station Park after Gary Irvine left earlier in the month.

Last week Mackay and manager James McPake were up against Davie Nicholls after he was promoted to Peterhead boss when Jim McInally left the club.

The week before the Pars took on a Clyde side led by Jim Duffy following the departure of Danny Lennon.

Mackay, who captained St Johnstone to Scottish Cup glory in 2014, knows that the League 2 side will be no pushovers.

“Ray McKinnon has come in and he is an experienced manager,” said Mackay.

In the dark

“I’m sure that he will have Forfar organised,” added Mackay.

“He has steadied the ship a bit in terms of getting a couple of draws in the league.

Steadied the ship: Ray McKinnon.

“They will come here and look to put in another performance.

“We will need to make sure that we are ready.

“In the couple games that they have played they have changed shape a couple of times.

“We are not entirely sure how they will come and line up but that should be irrelevant to us.

“We just need to focus on ourselves.

“We feel that if we play the way that we can, we will hurt any team when they come here.”
