Plumber Rory McAllister has urged his Montrose team-mates to flush Saturday’s shock Scottish Cup defeat to Darvel out of their system.
An Ian McShane double and strikes from Cameron Eadie, Ross Caldwell and Andrew Stirling handed Montrose a 5-2 hammering – their heaviest home loss in almost four years.
Terry Masson and Craig Brown’s efforts were mere consolations for Montrose who have now shipped NINE GOALS in two games.
Despite the result, they are still in the fight for the Championship play-offs, with a trip to Hampden to face Queen’s Park in the SPFL Trust Trophy to come next month.
And McAllister hopes the back-to-back defeats to Darvel and Queen of the South are a blip.
“It’s been a difficult couple of weeks,” said McAllister, who works in plumbing away from the game.
“We lost heavily at Queen of the South and then Darvel turned us over.
“It’s difficult to put into words what happened here.
“You could say it was Darvel’s Scottish Cup Final and they came determined to prove a point.
“But we didn’t turn up and were punished for it. It got a bit embarrassing in the end and we now need to go away and digest that.
“We are still in a good position in the league and in another cup but need to look at ourselves in the mirror and ask what went wrong.
Rory McAllister: We need to stick together
“Have we done enough? I don’t think many, if any, of us will be able to say we have.
“We are all grown men and I’ve been in the game long enough to know you can’t absolve yourself.
“If you think you did well enough in the game against Darvel then you are kidding yourself on.
“But we have to stick together. We are a strong team, with a great spirit and we have to get this out of our system.
“It’s a terrible day at the office but we have to keep going.
“Only we can change the momentum. No-one else can help us.”
