Brechin boss Darren Dods is expecting yet another tight match when they travel to Airdrie today.
Third-placed City can put some distance – well, five points – between themselves and the Diamonds with victory at the Excelsior Stadium.
However, as Dods himself pointed out, the home team will be thinking they can leapfrog the Angus men by taking all three points themselves.
While it is only a matter of when rather than if leaders Livingston clinch the title and Alloa finish second, the battle behind them is really hotting up.
Brechin come next on 45 points, then it’s East Fife and Airdrie on 43, Queen’s Park not too far away on 40 and even seventh-placed Albion Rovers on 39.
Dods said: “It is going to be another tight game down there and I think it will be like that between now and the end of the season to see who makes the play-offs.
“It is really bunched up but we can obviously do ourselves a big favour by winning this match.
“Mind you, the Airdrie lads will be looking at it and thinking they will go ahead of us on points if they win.
“We might have lost to Livingston last weekend (2-0 at home) but it wasn’t a bad performance from the players.
“They battled away and were up against a very good side in Livi, who had top scorer Liam Buchanan getting goals for them again,” added Dods, who has no fresh injuries to report.
“They troubled us at set-pieces because of their physicality but at least we won’t face them again this season!
“The good thing is we kept going and I’m looking to bounce back when we face Airdrie.”
