Dick Campbell hailed his Arbroath side after they started the New Year with their first win at Dundee since 1979.
Campbell was positively purring as goals from Michael McKenna, Colin Hamilton, Tam O’Brien and Dale Hilson helped his side to a thrilling 4-2 victory over ten-man Dundee.
It’s a result that gives Arbroath’s survival hopes a massive shot in the arm.
They are now six points clear of bottom side Hamilton and moved to within four of eighth placed Cove Rangers.
There is a long way to go before Lichties can secure their Championship status.
But this victory will give them hope that they can turn it around in 2023.
“It was one of those games where Dundee are a big club playing at home and are heavy favourites,” said Campbell.
“They were at the top of the Championship and everybody expected them to beat us comfortably.
“But don’t forget, we are desperate for points as well.
“I thought we were magnificent from start to finish.
“The spirit my players showed tells me we are going to be sending a clear message to everyone that we are here to fight.
“I thought we deserved to win it. We have picked up a great result in a local derby at the start of the New Year.”
