Arbroath ace Ryan Dow has no idea how he ended up in referee Alan Newlands book for his touchline encounter with Ross Millen.
Dow and Millen squared up to each other after a first-half tackle in Raith Rovers’ 2-1 win at Arbroath.
Millen dramatically ended up on the ground, claiming he had been headbutted.
But Dow has protested his innocence and insists the fact he wasn’t red carded underlines he didn’t touch Millen.
“I don’t understand the booking,” said Dow. “I made a tackle and got the ball.
“Their right-back then lay on top of me to stop me from getting up.
“It was a bit embarrassing from him. He came in head to head with me and fell down without me doing anything.
“I got booked and he got booked but it was a strange one.
“That meant I had to watch what I was doing for the rest of the game but still don’t know what I was supposed to have done.
“I put a good tackle in and he was on top of me then he tried to act like I headbutted him, which I didn’t.
“If the referee thought I’d headbutted him then I’d have been sent off. It was a stupid incident.”
Ryan Dow ready for Cove Rangers challenge
Meanwhile, Dow believes Saturday’s defeat was a missed opportunity.
Arbroath went into the game on the back of an impressive win at Morton, hoping they could leapfrog Cove Rangers into eighth place.
But with Cove winning at Partick, Lichties are now four points behind Paul Hartley’s with the sides due to meet a week on Saturday.
“We need to try and get a bit of momentum and put a run of wins together,” added Dow.
“We had a good win at Morton and wanted to kick on against Raith.
“It didn’t work out that way but we will be ready for the Cove game. That’s a massive match.”
