Andy Kirk has praised the Brechin City fans who are travelling across the Highlands to back the Angus team’s bid to return to the SPFL.

Around 100 City supporters made the 12-hour round-trip to Wick Academy on Saturday to roar their side onto a 3-0 win.

Brechin will be on the road again to Nairn this weekend, knowing they will make it a YEAR unbeaten in the Highland League if they avoid defeat.

And boss Kirk believes the dedication of their fans is making a difference as they clock up the road miles.

In total, City will travel 3,509 on the road this term for Highland League games.

But they’ll never be alone.

“Our fans have played a big part for the club this year,” said Kirk.

“We all appreciate their backing. The players, staff and everyone connected with the club feels their support.

“At home they are getting behind us and so many are giving up their Saturdays to travel and support us.

“The numbers are growing and the noise and expectation levels have gone up.

“To see so many up at Wick was great. It makes a real difference to players.

“The players get a boost from having people to run towards to celebrate a goal and knowing there are people to cheer them on.

“We’re all very grateful for their support.”

Andy Kirk: We won’t take support for granted

Kirk made a point of urging his entire squad to greet the travelling support at Wick on Saturday.

But he insists he didn’t need to work hard to get them to show their appreciation.

“We won’t ever take that support for granted,” added Kirk.

“I asked the subs and everyone on the touchline to go towards the fans at the end to applaud them.

“But we’ve got such a good group here that I didn’t really need to ask.

“The players on the pitch had already made the effort to thank the support. We quickly followed them.

“There’s a bond between the players, staff and fans.

“And hopefully we are giving the people in the stands something to look forward to.

“We try to play football the right way and show hard work and endeavour in every game.

“I think the fans appreciate our efforts, just as we thank them for theirs.”
