East Fife boss Barry Smith has spoken of his delight after defender Jonathan Page agreed to sign a new deal with the club that will keep him at Bayview for the next two seasons.
The 27-year-old, who has previously played for a whole host of sides including Portsmouth, Motherwell, Hamilton and Morton, had been attracting interest from elsewhere.
However, the defender has now agreed to commit his future to East Fife.
Smith said: “I spoke to Jonny on Wednesday night and I am delighted that he agreed to sign for us again.
“He is an important player for East Fife and has been excellent since I came in.
“We really missed him at the tail end of the season through injury.
“There was interest in him from elsewhere so it is great that he has committed to the club again.
“We are still waiting to hear back from Chris Duggan’s agent so we will just have to see what happens with that one but obviously we are keen for him to return to Bayview.”
As well as trying to re-sign players who were with the Methil side last season, Smith has been casting his net wide for new targets but he revealed that he has missed out on one to a League 1 rival.
The manager added: “We also offered what we thought was a very good deal to Ryan Wallace but we couldn’t compete with Stranraer.”
