Brechin City claimed the Highland League title with a stunning late win over championship rivals Buckie Thistle on Saturday.
Late goals from Ewan Loudon and Grady McGrath were enough to seal the trophy success as the Angus side eye up a return to the SPFL following a two-year exile.
And, courtesy of our sister title Press and Journal’s Highland League Weekly show, we can now bring you exclusive highlights of the momentous day.
The highlights package includes 30 minutes of footage from the game, analysis, post-match interviews and scenes of the celebrations.
On Saturday, all roads led to Buckie.
Around 750 Brechin fans made the 196-mile round trip to the Moray Firth coast town, hoping for a party.
For 85 minutes it looked like they were going to be disappointed.
But late, great strikes from Loudon and McGrath kicked off huge pitch invasions and celebrations.
Brechin’s win secures them the Highland League title, two years after relegation from the SPFL.
Brechin are also now guaranteed a place in next season’s Viaplay League Cup.
But the big one is still to come.
City are now in the pyramid play-offs with a two-leg clash with Spartans on April 29 and May 6.
Success in those games sets up a shoot-out with club 42 for a place in League Two, and Courier Sport will track Brechin’s journey all the way.
What next for Brechin City?
They could now be four wins away from returning to the SPFL.
That would be sweet redemption.
After the bitter disappointment of relegation, following a pyramid play-off loss to Kelty Hearts in 2021, City have regenerated.
They have strengthened community links and have a club to be proud of.
They have won over the hearts and minds of the locals, they now need to win some more football matches to restore their place in the SPFL.
