Montrose boss Stewart Petrie admits his summer signing spree is not yet over.
The Gable Endies’ manager has done most of his business early with the weekend additions of former Cowdenbeath defender Dean Brett and midfielder Jamie Redman, who recently left Peterhead, bringing his squad up to 18.
Petrie is pleased with the roster at his disposal but he is still looking to add one or two more before the start of the next campaign.
He said: “I had been working on the Dean Brett deal for a while but the Jamie Redman move came out of the blue.
“Ross (assistant Campbell) knew him from their time at university and when he found out Jamie was available, we moved quickly.
“They are fantastic additions for us and that brings us up to 18 signed players.
“We would still like to bring in one or two more but that might depend on the chairman’s cheque-book!
“Seriously though, we still need centre-half cover and that position is a priority.”
With his off-the-field business almost complete, Petrie is now looking forward to getting back to working on the training pitch with his players after their summer break.
He added: “We start back to pre-season next Monday. Some lads will still be on holiday but the majority of the squad will be there.
“We will be training, Monday, Wednesday and Friday so the players can still spend time with their families at the weekend before we are back in action playing matches again.
“We will have a sports scientist Stuart MacFarlane in place to bring that added bit of professionalism to the sessions but the ball will be out from day one.
“There will obviously be some running but the days of flogging players until they are sick are well and truly over.
“The aim is to get the squad as fit as possible and up to speed with the ball so we can have as good a start to the season as possible.”
