Montrose boss Stewart Petrie is looking forward to the luxury of overseeing a full week’s training with his players now that the club’s Betfred Cup campaign is at an end.
The Gable Endies signed off on a high, beating Alloa 2-1 at Links Park on Tuesday night.
Once again, Petrie’s squad was stretched wafer-thin with just 10 fit players at lunchtime on the day of the game.
Now though he is looking to regroup next week ahead of the club’s League 2 opener against Edinburgh City next Saturday.
He said: “It was a great result for us against Alloa especially considering the number of boys we had out.
“It was nice for the lads to finish on a high after some heavy defeats.
“It will give the boys a confidence boost ahead of our league opener against Edinburgh City.
“Hopefully by then there will be some light at the end of the tunnel with injuries.
“At 12 o’clock on Tuesday, we only had 10 fit players. So we signed Iain Campbell on a one-month deal along with three Under-17s on forms for the bench.
“Jamie Redman is seeing a specialist on August the 1st and hopefully he will be given the all-clear to return to training and be back after another fortnight.
“Matty Allan should be fit for the Edinburgh City game while other knocks should have cleared up so fingers crossed there will be some light at the end of the tunnel.
“It will also be good to have a wee break from games. This will be the first time since the start of pre-season that we will have had a full week’s training.
“I am also still actively looking to add to the squad, possibly one or two.
“We will see how things pan out but I am keen to bring in another right-back as Graham Webster has had to fill in there.”
