Forfar head to Somerset Park with spring in their step

Forfar Athletic head to title favourites Ayr United today with a spring in their step after getting their League One campaign up and running with a win.

The Loons defeated visitors Airdrie 2-1 last Saturday and manager Gary Bollan is delighted that his men can head to Somerset Park with points already in the bag.

Bollan said: “It is always good to get points on board at the start of a season.

“It gives everyone a lift and avoids any unnecessary negativity to linger.

“They came from an energetic display during which we created opportunities and looked fit throughout.

“The application levels were good and my only criticism would be that we did not go further ahead and that we allowed Airdrie to take a chance and get level.

“The message to the players this week has been that if you do not shoot well you do not score.

“Hopefully, that has gotten through to them as we are unlikely to have as many opportunities in this game as Ayr are a strong side.

“They have quality and experience in their defence and attack. They looked strong during their Betfred Group and carried that on into the league where they got off to a flyer last weekend at Albion Rovers with a 5-1 win.

“They lost heavily to a strong Hibs side in the Betfred in midweek but they will shrug that off and move on. I am under no illusions as this will be one of the hardest games in our league this season but it is one that we can look forward to.”

Bollan has a full squad to choose from with the exception of goalkeeper Grant Adam, who remains out through illness.

Also, the Station Park manager’s plans to add an overseas defender have been out on hold due to red tape.
