Raith Rovers winger Bobby Barr heaped praise on team-mate Lewis Vaughan after the striker netted for the ninth game running.
Vaughan struck twice in the 4-0 win over Ross County Colts in the Irn-Bru Cup second round tie at Stark’s Park, while Barr also got on the scoresheet along with Liam Buchanan.
Vaughan has hit the net 13 times already this season and his explosive form led to fears he could follow Ross Callachan out the exit door before the transfer window closed last week.
However, Barr was delighted Rovers managed to hold on to their top scorer.
“Vaughny was always staying unless someone came in with a big chunk of money for him,” Barr said.
“Call is a loss, in the dressing room and on the park, but I’m happy for him as well. You don’t want to play in League One if you get the opportunity to play in the Premiership with Hearts so good luck to him and I hope he flourishes there.
“Vaughny will get his move. He’s a talent. He works hard every day and he’s got ability.”
The cup tie proved to be a mismatch as Raith put four past last season’s Scottish U20 champions inside half an hour before taking their foot off the gas.
Vaughan started the rout in spectacular style on six minutes, whipping a 30-yard free-kick beyond the reach of goalkeeper Ross Munro and into the far top corner.
It was 2-0 after 10 minutes when Buchanan side-stepped two defenders to tee up Barr who saw his first effort saved on the line before firing home the rebound.
County Colts could not live with Raith’s pace and movement and the third goal followed on 20 minutes when Greig Spence forced Munro to save and Vaughan slid home the rebound from a narrow angle.
The game was buried by the 27th minute as Raith added a fourth when Vaughan played a corner kick along the ground to Buchanan and the striker swept home from 16 yards.
Raith had chances to add to their tally but County Colts improved after the break, restricting Raith to fewer openings as they managed to avoid the complete annihilation that had looked on the cards early on.
