Montrose looking for Elgin City revenge

Montrose are out for revenge against Elgin City when the teams meet at Links Park this afternoon.

The Moray men handed out a heavy defeat to Stewart Petrie’s side three months ago and the Gable Endies boss is looking to put things right today.

He said: “They gave us a right going over at their place back in September when they won 3-0. They fully deserved that win as they showed that afternoon that they are a very good footballing side.

“They also have a number of really good players. Brian Cameron is one of the top midfield talents in League Two and he is backed by the experience of Jon Paul McGovern. On-loan Aberdeen striker Bruce Anderson a player I was keen to bring here but could not get the deal done and he has shown how dangerous he is at Elgin.”

The defeat at Borough Briggs did however mark a turnaround in Montrose’s season.

Petrie added: “That loss came on the back of losing against Stirling Albion and I was wondering how our players would react to it. To be fair to them they have reacted really well and we have improved in every game since.”

That improvement was obvious last weekend against Berwick Rangers, with Montrose cantering to a 3-0 victory.

Petrie said: “Our first half performance last Saturday was the best we have seen in my 12 months here. We got an early goal and that settled us down before we went on to blow Berwick away.

“It would be terrific to get off to a start like that against Elgin.”

Danny Cavanagh and Ryan Ferguson will miss out.
