Jim Weir is hoping to be able to call upon experienced duo Kevin McNaughton and Mark Millar for today’s clash with Stranraer.
Former Aberdeen and Cardiff City player McNaughton was brought out of retirement due to the Station Park side’s injury crisis, while Millar is himself working his way back from a lengthy lay-off.
Weir reported: “Kevin will be involved again this week.
“He did well for us last week against Alloa in midfield before he was taken off with a knock.
“A lot of people had him as our man of the match.
“Mark came on for him and he’s trained again this week so he will be available as well. We’ve also got Paddy Cregg, so that’s a lot of experience in that area.”
There won’t be much experience on the bench though, with the many long-term injured players still out, Scott Lochhead unwell and Eddie Malone serving the second game of his suspension.
“We’ll have a couple of really young lads as substitutes,” said Weir.
“Hopefully we’ll be more clinical than we were last Saturday.
“We were the better team in the first half and Jim Goodwin told me as much after the game. And we had the better chances.
“I had a feeling that the first team to score would win and that proved to be the case unfortunately. We’re definitely better defensively than when I came in and nobody is rolling us over. But the hardest bit in football is scoring goals.
“Stranraer is never an easy game but if we play to our capabilities and take our chances we can win it.”
