Dick Campbell believes his Arbroath side are the best part time-time team he has ever worked with.
The Red Lichties travel to Ayr this afternoon to face Ian McCall’s League One table-toppers with confidence high after their third Angus derby win of the season.
And, with the possibility of one more January recruit, Campbell is optimistic about today’s game and the rest of the season.
“I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself,” he said. “But I do seriously think that this is the best part-time team I’ve had.
“There’s a good balance to the team, they’re a good age, they can play a bit and they’ve got speed.
“We’ve added wee Ryan Wallace and he looks like a player. I’m still thinking about whether I’ll bring in one more.”
Leighton McIntosh has been made a contract offer, with Campbell waiting to hear the former Dundee forward’s answer.
He said: “Leighton’s got the three qualities you want in a striker. He’s big, he’s got a good touch and he can finish.”
Arbroath have beaten Ayr at Somerset Park already this season, a performance Campbell described as his team’s “best of the season.”
“We’ll give it a go again,” he said. “We’re probably where we should be in the league and we know that we can beat anyone if we play to our best.”
Gavin Swankie is a doubt.
