Darren Young doesn’t care how East Fife get win over Airdrie

East Fife have had two very different wins over Airdrie so far this season and Bayview manager Darren Young is not picky over the manner in which a third is secured.

The sides meet in Lanarkshire with East Fife looking for their first three-point haul since the Diamonds were polished off 6-1 in November.

Young said: “Another performance and result against Airdrie like that would be terrific however I would gladly settle for the gutsy 1-0 win we achieved at their place earlier in the season through Mark Docherty’s dinked penalty.”

Young’s side lost 3-2 to neighbours Raith Rovers on Tuesday and he knows that his men have to improve defensively.

He said: “It was nice to get clapped off but I want us to be getting that and points on board. To achieve that we have stop giving away the bad goals that we have been giving away.

“Against Raith we gave away a poor goal and then got back into things before the cycle repeated itself again. Unfortunately when it happened a third time we could not get an equaliser and it was another game lost that we deserved at least a point from.

“You go away and analyse the game and see that it is individual mistakes that are costing us. Things like not picking up correctly at corners are being punished and we need the players to take responsibility in these key match-ups.”

He added: “The last time we played Airdrie it looked like our season was going to head in a positive direction however it has not quite happened yet. If we can go there and give an error free performance with a clean sheet secured then we have a platform to move forward again.”

The Fifers have fitness doubts over Jordan Piggott, Greg Hurst and Kevin Smith.
