Lee Robinson insists he has never felt as down after a game as he did last weekend – but is determined to ensure Dunfermline are looking up again after today’s visit to Livingston.
The former Rangers and Queen of the South keeper took responsibility for Morton’s dramatic late winner against the Pars last Saturday and the goal has eaten away at him all week.
The 31-year-old sprinted to the edge of his box to collect a through ball but only succeeded in colliding with skipper Callum Morris to leave his goal empty for Gary Oliver to knock in Bob McHugh’s cutback.
The Englishman has been in impressive form since joining the Fifers on New Year’s Day but admits he plumbed the depths after costing his side a valuable point in the 2-1 defeat.
However, he is convinced he and his team-mates can bounce back and make up for the defeat as high-flying hosts Livingston target the win that would take them second in the Championship.
Robinson said: “It’s the lowest I have felt straight after a game.
“There were a few people like that in the dressing room but, for me personally, the way it went, it doesn’t get more difficult than that.
“I felt comfortable the whole game, we were the better team and we should have been a few goals up.
“It was a horrendous feeling and, given my part in it, it was hard to take.
“Thankfully, we have a good game to bounce back in. but it’s been hard waiting for it all week.
“So this game is massive. It’s a good one to come back to, a team round about us.
“If we can get a win there, then everyone’s happy again.”
Defeat to Morton, on the back of a loss to St Mirren and a draw with Dundee United, saw Dunfermline drop down to fifth and out of the promotion play-off places.
And Robinson has confessed that makes this afternoon’s trip to West Lothian – in the division’s only match – all the more crucial.
He added: “Livingston can go nine points clear if they beat us, with a game in hand, and we can’t allow that.
“So this is massive game for us.
“We have a good enough squad to be challenging for the top places and we definitely should be making the play-offs.
“It’s getting to the point where we need results now.
“The margins have been really fine. In the long term you want to look like a good team so you can have success over a longer period.
“If you don’t take your chances and don’t get the luck and then you let one in at the last minute, everything is terrible.
“Or you can play really badly and one goes in off the striker’s backside in the last second, everything is rosy.
“To get in the play-offs we need to start getting these breaks.”
