Goal-shy Cowdenbeath have a tough task against free-scoring Peterhead

A goal-shy Cowdenbeath side are hosting a Peterhead team that have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to attacking options.

So Blue Brazil manager Gary Bollan knows that they have to make no mistakes at all at the back this afternoon.

The Central Park men are looking for their first win since the second league game of the season but are big outsiders against promotion-chasing Peterhead.

Bollan said: “We lost 2-0 to Clyde last weekend however there were positives to take. For half an hour we were on top and taking the game to a team that were high on confidence. We hit the bar from a great move and went close with a header but unfortunately we could not score.

“That was very encouraging but it was not a first as I have seen it in other games but we need to piece it together for a 90 minute performance.”

He added: “In defence we have to cut out the mistakes we are making and we need to cut them out now. We need an error free performance at the back.

“We are making the same mistakes but it is different players that are making them so you cannot just change personnel. Peterhead have the fire-power to punish us severely if we make mistakes even if Rory McAllister does not make the game after being injured in midweek.

“They brought on Russell McLean for Rory and he scored with his first touch. He went on to score a hat-trick so we have to defend really well against all their players. They are a very capable side who I watched score six times at Montrose during the Christmas period.”

Bollan would love such riches up front.

He said: “Our search for a striker has not borne any fruit so far. We will have David Cox back after suspension and Robbie Buchanan could play with a lightweight plaster over his hand injury. It is good to have them available again but we need more goals in our side.”
