Montrose boss Stewart Petrie is determined to move on quickly from last week’s desperately-disappointing defeat at Clyde when they play Edinburgh City this afternoon.
The Gable Endies slipped off the summit of the League 2 table following the loss to Danny Lennon’s side.
Montrose could not recover after conceding three times in the first half and are now sitting in second place behind Peterhead on goal difference.
While the defeat to Clyde was a big blow, at this stage of the season, Petrie is refusing to dwell on it and takes comfort from the fact that the last time his team lost in January – against the same opponents – Montrose went on to win their next three games.
The manager said: “I thought we were comfortable for half an hour last week.
“Without being dominant I felt we were on top but we lost a goal in 31 minutes and then we conceded a poor goal from our point of view from a corner.
“At the third goal, David Goodwillie did what he is good at with a super finish.
“That was the last kick of the first half so in 14 minutes we went from being comfortable in the game to being 3-0 down.
“We huffed and puffed in the second half but Clyde are on a good run and are doing well.
“They are one of those teams who if they score first they are really hard to beat and they will be a major threat to anyone who plays them.
“But we are not going to get too caught up in what happened – it was impossible to win all of your games and nobody has ever done that.
“We spoke about it earlier in the week and we now need to look at what we have to do to get a result against Edinburgh.”
Petrie added: “The last game against them we were fortunate.
“I went down to watch them on Tuesday night at Stirling and they thoroughly deserved at least a point.
“We know how difficult it is going to be as they have some right good players in their team.
“It will be a difficult match.
“Hopefully though we can get a similar reaction to the last time we lost to Clyde.”
Petrie will have a big selection headache for the game as he almost has a full squad available.
He added: “Matty Allan, Michael Bolochoweckyj and Graham Webster all return although Iain Campbell is still a week away.
“So we will almost have a full squad to choose from which is a great position to be in at this stage of the season.”
