Brechin may be resigned to playing their football in League 1 next season but boss Darren Dods is determined they will be leaving the Championship with a bang, not a whimper.
The Angus side were officially consigned to the drop last week when they lost 2-0 at Morton.
Everyone at the club knew it was inevitable but it did not make relegation any easier to stomach.
Now though the manager and players have switched their focus to finally trying to remove a King-Kong-sized primate from their backs and win a league game for the first time this season – hopefully at Falkirk this afternoon.
Dods said: “We all knew it was coming but it was still a bitter blow to have it confirmed.
“Obviously, we would have liked to get a positive result and keep it going for a while longer but it wasn’t to be.
“We actually played as well as we have done in the last few weeks in the first half against Morton but then we got punished twice by John Baird, a striker who has scored wherever he has been.
“Give the lads their due though, they kept battling away but it is important now that we try to finish as strongly as possible in the last seven games.
“The boys were a wee bit down on Tuesday night at training but they picked up and were bubblier on Thursday.
“We are all determined to finally get a positive result and win a game.
“However, we are fully aware that it will not be easy as we have a tough set of fixtures with Falkirk away followed by a trip to Inverness on Tuesday night and then the visit of runaway league leaders St Mirren on Saturday.
“It will be difficult for us on the big astro pitch at Falkirk but we ran them close the last time we played them and were unlucky to lose to a 93rd-minute goal after being reduced to 10 men following Aron Lynas’s dismissal.
“It was an even game and we deserved a point so we can definitely go there and hopefully get a result this time.”
Craig Storie, Ryan McGeever and Andy Jackson are out injured while Euan Spark is suspended.
