Forfar have fought hard to get into the position that they can determine their League One destiny even if they lose to relegation rivals Albion Rovers this afternoon.
But winning at Coatbridge would certainly make life a lot simpler.
Forfar have a four-point advantage over both Rovers and Queen’s Park and Weir said: “It’s in our own hands and we don’t want to lose that.
“That will be the case even if we lost but we want to have some breathing space.
“Albion Rovers will see it as their big chance to get close to us and we’re looking on it as our chance to get away from them.
“The players have done really well to get into this position.
“You can never be 100% sure but if we win two more games that will probably be enough.”
Rovers had two players sent off the last time the teams played and Weir is hoping that there isn’t any “bad blood” carried over to today’s fixture.
Either way, Mark Millar’s return could be crucial.
Weir said: “We missed Mark last weekend at Stranraer, when he had work commitments.
“Hopefully he’ll be back for this one.
“We’ve had a lot of players who have done well for us in the last few months and Mark is definitely one of them.
“When we’ve won games his control of midfield has been crucial.
“It’s important the players are disciplined because there are three games to play after this one.”
Scott McBride is unlikely to see action again as he has had his foot operated on. Andy Munro returns from suspension.
Rovers’ top scorer Alan Trouten is banned, as is Gary Fisher.
