Forfar looking to finish the job

Jim Weir.
Jim Weir.

Forfar have got three chances to ensure their League One survival but Jim Weir is determined that they will do it in one.

The Loons are seven points clear of Albion Rovers and Queen’s Park and would not even need a point if their relegation rivals both lose.

But Weir isn’t counting on that happening.

“We have to expect them both to win,” he said.

“It’s a great position to be in with three games to go. If it has to go to next week or even the last day of the season, so be it.

“But we want to finish the job at the first opportunity against Alloa today.”

Reflecting on last weekend’s crucial late win in Coatbridge, Weir said: “We were the better team in the first half, controlled the game and had a couple of really good chances.

“It took us a while to score but there’s no better way to win a game. With Queen’s Park losing as well, it was the perfect Saturday.

“Hopefully we can pick up where we left off.”

Forfar have won three out of their last four home games and Weir is hoping that the Station Park fans will help them over the finishing line this afternoon.

“The supporters have definitely played their part,” he said.

“We’ve had great backing and there’s no doubt it makes a big difference. The players respond to it.

“We aren’t taking anything for granted but we’ve got two home games in a row now.

“It will be a tough game, though, because Alloa are fighting to get into the play-offs.”

Eddie Malone won’t be available but otherwise it will be the same squad as seven days ago.
