Arbroath boss Dick Campbell is looking for some home comfort this season – starting this afternoon against Stranraer.
The Red Lichties kicked off their League 1 campaign last week, taking all three points and local bragging rights with a thumping 4-0 win against Montrose at Links Park.
Arbroath picked up from where they left off last season with that victory on the road and Campbell is demanding his players display similar ruthlessness at Gayfield this term.
The manager said: “There was a lot of expectation on Montrose last week but I felt we played really well and could have scored even more.
“We will not be getting carried away but is always good to win a derby.
“It is just another three points at the end of the day but it was pleasing to get the league campaign off to a winning start.
“It was also great to keep a clean sheet and to secure the win on the road.
“Our away record last season was superb and we want more of the same in this campaign.
“However, our home form hasn’t been the best – Stranraer beat us twice at Gayfield last year – so I will be looking for a big improvement starting on Saturday.”
Campbell admits he has a nice selection headache to cope with for the Stranraer game.
He added: “I now have a big problem.
“Jason Thomson missed the Montrose match because he was best man at his brother’s wedding and I now have a huge decision to make about bringing him back in or not.
“That actually sends out a message to the rest of the teams in the league that I have that option with a player of Jason’s calibre.”
Steven Doris is the only player missing out through injury but the striker is edging closer to a return.
