Jim Duffy and Paul Sheerin have emerged as strong contenders for the Raith Rovers manager’s job, Courier Sport can reveal.
The Kirkcaldy club have been inundated with applications to replace Barry Smith.
With interviews set to begin this week, it is understood Duffy, Sheerin, Barry Robson, Lee Clark and caretaker Kevin Cuthbert are the frontrunners.
Duffy has by the far the most experience of those five, most recently at Championship level with Falkirk.
Sheerin (who is on the Aberdeen coaching staff, along with Robson) led Arbroath to promotion a few years ago and narrowly missed out on the Inverness Caledonian Thistle post when John Robertson was appointed.
Clark has worked predominantly in England but had a short stint at Kilmarnock.
Cuthbert has yet to win while caretaker but would be the continuity candidate after being part of Smith’s backroom team.
