Montrose boss looking for same again against Forfar

Montrose manager Stewart Petrie is looking for more of the same from his players when the Gable Endies host Forfar this afternoon.

The Links Park side go into the heat of an Angus derby on the back of a 1-1 draw at Raith Rovers.

It was a level of performance that would keep Petrie happy every week.

He said: “The boys were excellent at Stark’s Park and we played a lot of good football.

“There was nothing to be disappointed about and it is great to say that we went to the home of a full-time side and deservedly came away with a point.

“If we can get that level of performance in every game then I will be happy. It is all about delivering at that high level consistently now.”

The meeting with the Loons gives Montrose the chance to make up for a 3-1 Betfred Cup defeat earlier in the season.

Petrie added: “It will be a tough contest against Forfar but it is a chance for us to show them that we are a better side than we looked back in July. They were much the better side and deservedly beat us.

“It will not be easy to get the win that would take us above Forfar in the table but if we play like we did at Raith then we have a chance.”

Aberdeen full-back Ryan Harrington will again play in the centre of his defence as Michael Bolochoweckyj is banned and Matty Allan is injured.

Meanwhile, Forfar boss Jim Weir is weighing up whether to reward the substitutes who helped get them back in the game last weekend.

The Loons scored their equaliser within a few minutes of Andy Munro and Matthew Aitken coming on against Brechin.

And Weir was still mulling over his starting XI yesterday evening.

He said: “We lost a bad goal but we started to play better and were more creative later in the game.

“Sometimes you have to be fair to the subs who have come on and made a difference. I’ve not made up my mind yet on my team.

“This will be a tough game. Stewart Petrie has done a really good job there.

“The players all know what they’re supposed to be doing and they played well last week.

“We beat them at the start of the season in the Betfred Cup but no two games are the same.”

Michael Kennedy is still ruled out.
