Like every other manager on League One, Jim Weir has a January transfer wish list.
But the Forfar boss won’t make signings just to pad out his squad.
“We’ll be trying our very best to strengthen,” he said. “But making signings in January doesn’t always have the effect people think.
“It’s not about bringing in cover or people to sit on a bench. It’s about make the starting line-up better.
“We’d like to get a left-sided defender. We’ve got players who have done a job but a natural left-back would be good to have.
“Centre-back is an area as well that we could strengthen, and I still think we need another striker.
“In an ideal world we would get three players but we’ll see how the window goes.”
Forfar travel to Dumbarton this afternoon, looking to stay in the play-off places.
Weir revealed that a late decision will be made on talisman John Baird.
“Bairdy hasn’t trained this week,” he reported.
“It’s a thigh injury and hopefully the fact that we took him off as soon as he felt it last week will help.”
Dylan Easton will definitely feature. He was withdrawn in the Brechin game because he had been ill through the week but that is no longer an issue.
There could also be a place on the bench for Matty Aitken.
“He’s not ready to start but we could get 15 or 20 minutes out of him,” said Weir.
Dumbarton started the season as one of the title favourites but getting themselves away from the danger area is their current concern.
Weir said: “They had a lot of injuries and got off to a bad start but they’ve still got some really good players.
“We probably played our best game of the season to beat them here but no two games are the same.
“We weren’t at our best last weekend but we’ve started the third quarter off well with a win and we want to keep that going.”
