East Fife manager Darren Young wants to ensure that league points are banked before the Fifers aim for further cup success.
The Methil side head to Stranraer today for what could be their last League 1 fixture until February 23.
Young wants a winning send-off, as he explained: “This is a really big game for us as we could be facing a break from league football for three Saturdays due to our commitments in both the Irn-Bru and Scottish Cups.
“It would be a nice problem to have as it would mean that we have won at Bohemians and are in a semi-final.
“But in terms of our promotion hopes it would be good to go into that potential (league) break with a win.
“It would be great to open up a gap on the other teams chasing play-off places and then return to midweek league games still having an advantage.”
The last time East Fife faced the Stair Park men a comfortable 3-0 advantage was thrown away in the final half-hour.
However, Young has turned that experience into a positive.
He said: “That last game was a bit sore at the time but we have shown that we have learnt from that afternoon on a few occasions since then and especially last Saturday in the Scottish Cup.
“Stranraer brought in Joao Victoria from Airdrie this week and it will be interesting to see what move does to the shape of their team.
“PJ Crossan played last Saturday instead of Luke Donnelly, who moved to Arbroath, and he scored against Partick Thistle. They may stick with PJ or throw Joao in. Whatever they do we have to be ready.”
Young looks set to keep the same approach that earned a 2-1 cup success over Championship side Morton last weekend.
He added: “The players worked really hard to get a positive result and it was also good to see the hard work they put in on the training pitch coming off as well as the two goals came from rehearsed set-pieces.”
Young has a full squad to choose from but winger Craig Thomson looks set to move away from the club and sign for another League 1 outfit.
